Marketoonist: 20 years of marketing in 20 cartoons

To celebrate the Marketoonist’s 20th birthday, we asked its founder, Tom Fishburne, to select 20 cartoons that sum up some of the key moments in marketing over the past two decades.

For the past two decades the Marketoonist has been entertaining audiences with his witty and on-point observations about marketing.

To celebrate his 20th anniversary, Marketing Week asked the man behind the cartoons – Tom Fishburne – to take us on a journey through marketing via his illustrations.

Fishburne, who is a marketer by trade, first started drawing cartoons to entertain his co-workers while working at General Mills. Eight years later he took the plunge and made being the Marketoonist his full-time job, helping businesses to communicate marketing stories through his humorous drawings.

Watch the video above to hear from the man himself as he talks us through some of the pivotal moments and marketing faux pas of the past 20 years.

Later this week we will be speaking to Fishburne for the latest edition of Marketing Week’s This Much I Learned podcast. We will also be asking readers to pick their favourite cartoon of the past two decades – the Marketoonist has selected 10 of his most popular cartoons, so look out for your chance to vote next week.
